‘They’re scum. They’re sick people’: Trump says ceasefire is over with Iran following new strikes
President Donald Trump announced the ceasefire with Iran is over, citing frustration with negotiations and escalating military actions in the Strait of Hormuz.
WASHINGTON —
President Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire agreement with Iran is over, expressing frustration with the negotiations and recent military escalations.
“To me, I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them.” Trump said. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s just a waste of time dealing with them. They’re liars.”

Late Tuesday, Iran attacked American military installations in Bahrain and Kuwait.
U.S. Central Command released video Tuesday showing U.S. forces conducting retaliatory strikes on more than 80 targets after Iran attacked three commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz. This flare-up has raised more questions about the path to ending the conflict.
“They’re scum, they’re sick people. They’re led by sick people, and they’re vicious, violent people, and if they had a nuclear weapon, they’d use it,” Trump said.
Last month, both sides signed a memorandum of understanding for Tehran to dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which can be used to build nuclear weapons. The agreement provided a 60-day window for broader negotiations. However, the renewed strikes and the president’s comments have created uncertainty about the future of these talks.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Treasury Department announced it revoked a 60-day license that had allowed the sale of Iranian oil. The license, issued last month, was part of an interim agreement to end the fighting between the two countries.
Negotiations to reach a final deal were expected to begin after the funeral of Iran’s late supreme leader, but the recent attacks and the president’s remarks have thrown those plans into question.
Trump said that conversations between his negotiating team and Iran could continue, but he had little hope they would succeed.
