Watch: Nebraska assistant coaches give updates on quarterbacks, running backs, tight ends in fall camp

LINCOLN, Neb. —

Nebraska quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas has plenty of praise for starting quarterback Anthony Colandrea.

“I think that he has speed when he plays and speed when he processes,” Thomas said.

But Thomas said that Colandrea sometimes is too fast for the Husker offense.

“The quote we talk about is process over results. Good things will happen, but he sometimes needs to handle things a little bit differently,” Thomas said.

Emmett Johnson’s NFL departure has led to an open competition under running backs coach E.J. Barthel.

“I’ll let the head coach make that decision as far as who is going to be the guy, but as far as I am concerned, we have multiple starters,” Barthel said.

Tight ends coach Marcus Satterfield also discussed the state of his position group.

“I like the maturation of and the development of our guys in the last month and a half just taking that step forward and having good plays on offense because of the calls on the field and not just playing on the field when the play happens.”

Run game coordinator Lonnie Teasley also discussed Nebraska’s veterans on the offensive line.

“That definitely helps. When guys have played a lot of snaps, they’ve seen a lot of football. Things don’t surprise them as much as they surprise a freshman,” Teasley said.
