In May’s primary election, Republican incumbent Jim Pillen, Democrat Lynne Walz, and Legalize Marijuana Now candidate Rick Beard advanced to November’s general election.
“After much encouragement and consideration, I have decided to enter the race for Nebraska Governor. Our state is facing a pivotal moment in terms of how we manage our budget and create opportunities for future generations and Nebraskans deserve another choice. Our immediate focus will be collecting the required signatures to be on the ballot, and once that is complete, we look forward to joining the discussion about the future of our great state,” Lindstrom said in a statement.
He would need at least 4,000 signatures, including at least 750 from each congressional district, by Aug. 3 to appear on the ballot.
Lindstrom, who served as a state senator from 2015 to 2023, ran for governor in 2022. He lost to Pillen in the Republican primary.
In January, Lindstrom withdrew his name from the race for Nebraska’s 2nd Congressional District seat.
