How to save during Amazon, Target, and Walmart sales this week

Amazon, Target and Walmart are all running major sales this week. Here’s what’s worth buying and how to tell if a deal is actually worth it.

Amazon’s Prime Day is underway, but it’s far from the only major sale event competing for shoppers’ attention this week.

Amazon’s Prime Day runs through June 26. Target’s Circle Deal Days event also runs through June 26, while Walmart Deals continue through June 28.

These sales can be a great opportunity to save, so here are three categories worth considering.

Big-ticket purchases

Major sales events often bring some of the deepest discounts of the year on tech, small appliances and household items. If you’ve been waiting to buy a new air fryer or vacuum, now could be the time to make that purchase.

Everyday essentials

Items such as skincare products, paper goods, cleaning supplies and pet products are frequently included in promotional events. If they’re products you know you’ll purchase anyway, buying them on sale can help lower future household expenses.

Back-to-school shopping

According to the National Retail Federation, families were expected to spend an average of $858 on back-to-school shopping last year, while back-to-college spending was projected to reach $1,326. If you know you’ll need school supplies, dorm essentials, or clothing, starting now can help spread those costs over multiple paychecks.

How to tell if a deal is actually worth it

Before making a purchase, shoppers should check an item’s price history rather than relying solely on the advertised discount.

Amazon provides price-history information through its app and on its website. Third-party tools such as CamelCamelCamel track historical Amazon prices, while CamelMart tracks Walmart pricing.

Google Shopping can also show historical pricing information for many products across retailers, helping consumers determine whether a sale price is truly a bargain.
