Iowa National Guard members leave for Europe NATO mission
DES MOINES, Iowa —
Iowa National Guard troops left Des Moines for a deployment in Europe.
The battalion was sent off with a ceremony at the Des Moines Airport Monday morning in preparation for overseas service the next year.

Gov. Kim Reynolds said the Iowa National Guard plays a crucial role in strengthening freedom around the world.
“The reinforcement of a crucial global alliance and a clear message of the United States’ strength, unity and commitment to the cause of freedom around the world. As you head into deployment, know that you represent the best of our state and our country,” Reynolds said.
The troops will provide military support for NATO in several European countries against Russian operations in the region as part of Operation Atlantic Resolve.
