The investigation began May 1 after Bryan West ER contacted police about a 23-month-old child in critical condition.

Doctors said the child had bruising and a brain bleed and later determined the injuries were consistent with abusive trauma.

Investigators said Rejda, the boyfriend of the child’s mother, was responsible.

The toddler remains hospitalized.
