Hillside Solutions has launched Omaha’s first curbside compost club, providing residents with a new way to reduce landfill waste and contribute to local agriculture. More than 350 homes across City Council Districts 1 and 3 have expressed interest in the program, with over 75 households already signed up. Participants receive a rolling cart for weekly pickup service, and the processed material is sent to local farms to be used as fertilizer. “We don’t have a program like this yet. While it’s brand new here, it is not brand new around the rest of the country. Here in Omaha, we have a lot of landfill space, but there is no reason to squander that space, so let’s use that as we need for things that don’t have value,” Andy Harpenau, Hillside Solutions owner, said. The service costs $25 per month, and participants can choose to receive composted soil back instead of donating it. Hillside Solutions is also offering drop-off sites for those who prefer to contribute in that way.Make sure you can always see the latest news, weather, sports and more from KETV NewsWatch 7 on Google search.NAVIGATE: Home | Weather | Local News | National | Sports | Newscasts on demand |
