Driver arrested after crashing through Millard backyards during chase

A driver led Nebraska State Patrol on a chase through a Sarpy County neighborhood, crashing through fences and backyards before fleeing into a creek and being arrested.

CHALCO, Neb. —

A driver crashed through fences and backyards during a chase in Sarpy County near 144th Street and Giles Road, leading Nebraska State Patrol troopers through a neighborhood as backyard security cameras captured it all on video.

Video footage shows Nebraska State Patrol troopers pursuing the vehicle and attempting to use stop sticks to stop the driver. The chase ended with the car crashing through several Millard backyards. That driver fled into the South Papillion Creek, according to neighbors.

“I see this car barrel through our neighbor’s backyard, continuously goes into our backyard, and they took out our whole entire fence that was over there,” homeowner Sarah Cotton said.

Cotton was on a call for work when she saw the incident from her back window. But the driver didn’t stop there.

“A lot of the state troopers were out there, and she decided to flee her vehicle. And then I heard she went down into the creek, was kind of exploring around there. And then the police found her down there,” Cotton said.

Nebraska State Patrol confirmed the driver was found in the South Papio Creek and arrested on several charges.

Cotton, along with neighbors, spent Monday evening trying to clean up the damage.

“This is ridiculous. And, yeah, I mean, we work hard for our house and everything. I’d like somebody to trash it. It is not cool,” neighbor Gabie Murphy said.

They said they’re glad no one was hurt.

“Definitely it was off-putting for sure. I just, I feel like this is like a perfect little cul-de-sac, little nice neighborhood,” Cotton said.

“We’re so tucked away it’s not even funny. We don’t hear anything back here. And that’s part of what we loved about this house,” Murphy said.

KETV asked the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office and Nebraska State Patrol for more information on the suspect, how the pursuit began, and what charges she now faces.
